05.06.2024 – Concert: Ralah’ Trio (Madagascar)
On 5 June 2024, the AMA will host a concert by the Madagascan band “Ralah’ Trio”, a collaboration resulting from the AoM project Improvising Culture. Jazz in Madagascar by Martin Büdel.
For the first time in Germany, the Ralah’ Trio will present their vision of Madagascar in the (music) world. The three musical “brothers” (Malagasy: Rahalahy) combine influences from contemporary jazz, electro, funk and pop with Malagasy music – and they draw on the rich and diverse resources of traditional and modern music genres of Madagascar’s musical landscape.
Long separated between France and the “red island” in the Indian Ocean, the icon of Malagasy folk Erick Manana reactivated the band for a tour in France last year. The singer-songwriter is far from alone in admiring the trio’s powerful, groovy yet subtle and sensitive performances. The Ralah’ Trio is working on its first album and the single “Ala” was released a few weeks ago on YouTube and other platforms: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBurKXftnS8
