‘AFRICAN PRESENCE’ SPECIAL: INTRODUCTION TO THE MUSIC OF TANZANIA

We are excited to present you episode #449 of WeltBeat host and selector Jean Trouillet’s far-reaching broadcasts, another ‘African Presence’ special in cooperation with Hauke Dorsch, director of the African Music Archives at the University of Mainz. The show offers an introduction to the music of Tanzania by special guest, Prof. Dr. Imani Sanga. Sanga is Professor of Music in the Department of Creative Arts at the University of Dar es Salaam. His research focusses on Popular Music, Cultural Musicology, Aesthetics, Postcolonial Theory, Music and Swahili Literature as well as the Music of Tanzania. Imani Sanga brings us a diverse selection of Tanzanian popular music by artists such as Hukwe Zawose, the Ikhwani Safaa Musical Club, Sahib El Arry featuring the late and great taraab vocalist Bi Kidude, the Dar Es Salaam Jazz Band, and many more.
