‘AFRICAN PRESENCE’ SPECIAL: THE AFRICAN MUSIC ARCHIVE PRESENTS NONKU PHIRI & SHARON ONYANGO-OBBO
Together with the Globalwize radio show host and selector Jean Trouillet, AMA’s director Hauke Dorsch and PhD student Tom Simmert introduce Nonku Phiri from South Africa and Sharon Onyango-Obbo from Uganda/Kenya in #430 of this Podcast. Nonku Phiri is a vocal artist with a wide range of artistic skills and an impressive catalogue of releases and live performances around the globe. Sharon Onyango-Obbo is a music producer, audio engineer, DJ and creative consultant who is currently spearheading the Santuri Electronic Music Acadamy in Nairobi. The two are part of this year’s ‘artists in residence’ program at the African Music Archives and for this show explore their previous releases, while also showcasing their re-imaginations of music retrieved from the AMA’s extensive archival collections.
